The Gewehr98 was the primary battle rifle of the Imperial German Army from its adoption in April of 1898, until the end of the First World War & later introduction of the Karabiner 98b in 1924.
The Gewehr98 continued to serve the German military well into the Second World War in several different variations, primarily in support roles & modified variations. The Gewehr98 was primarily an infantryman's rifle while the Karabiner 98a was adopted for use by the support troops, cavalry, artillery, & pioneers. Both rifles are covered here from a collector's point of view. I will add additional information covering aspects of accessories & the karabiner98k as time permits. I am currently working on creating a database of information on both these rifles, from the information gathered we hope to have a better understanding on production, variations & the history of these rifles, any rifles you may have to share information with us would be appreciated & would further an effort for a book on these interesting rifles. I am always available to answer questions about your rifle as well- I can be contacted at graf@gewehr98.com to take your information or answer questions. I am also doing a study of WW2 German stripper clips. See the stripper clip page if you would like to participate, and see what information I have collected thus far. If you have any infomation to add, please contact me. Links to other pages of info:
